5 Summer Book Recommendations 2017

For health, the following two are worth buying on paper so you can refer to the details:

The Blue Zones Solution: Eating and Living Like the World’s Healthiest People
by Dan Buettner
– A study of people around the world, who live the longest and healthiest, with suggestions for how you can too.  No one miracle food, but identifies 9 factors that are common to all these groups of people.

The Brain Fog Fix: Reclaim Your Focus, Memory, and Joy in Just 3 Weeks
by Dr. Mike Dow
– While I’m not sure about the fog, the book is a very practical review of the causes of ill health and suggests some simple fixes.

For entertainment, I listened to the following 3 as audiobooks, downloaded from the library, as just stories being told, while I was walking, running and driving.

Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen
by Christopher McDougall
– Explains why some people get injured running, and others run the way evolution designed humans to run.

What the Dog Saw: And Other Adventures
by Malcolm Gladwell
– A collection of analyses ranging from kitchen gadgets to hair color to ketchup and from satellite images to mammograms.

Tribe: On Homecoming and Belonging
by Sebastian Junger
– A look at the lure of native tribes vs. modernized societies and why some people miss war.

Hello world!

Why www.itkino.com ?
Literally about the domain…because my last name is Itkin and itkin.com was taken a long time ago.  So to me it sounds like my name and the “o” is what I “know”.

Why a website at all, when I could tweet, snap, instagram, post on Facebook, etc., etc., etc.?
Because I like the ease of use, design, flexibility and solidity of the website. It’s just in one central location. I can fill it with any kind of text or media I want.  I can always make references to it from other applications if I want, or from the website to the other applications.  Using WordPress, it’s simple to change/edit a theme at any time.

But why a website at all?  What will be in this website?
I see this site as a traditional blog (originally a portmanteau of web and log), so it’ll contain my log of what I know something about: technology, design, photography, cars, bikes, travel, cool products and project management.
